“Frozen 2” Is on Its Way

Walt Disney Company(NEW YORK) — Another cold front is on its way. Disney announced Thursday that they’re developing Frozen 2, a sequel to the 2013 Oscar-winning animated film.

The studio added that directors from the original film, Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, and the original producer, Peter Del Vech, have signed on to bring this film to life.

News of a sequel comes after Disney is set to release a short film, titled Frozen Fever. The short film centers on Princess Elsa, who catches a cold as she tries to plan Princess Anna’s birthday. It hits theaters beginning March 13 at screenings of Cinderella

Although Disney Animation tweeted the news, it was officially announced Thursday by Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney John Lasseter at Disney’s annual shareholders meeting.

“We enjoyed making Frozen Fever so much and being back in that world with those characters,” he said. “Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that.”

Arendelle is the name of the fictional kingdom in Frozen, home to the two sister princesses.

There’s no word yet on when production will start, or when the film will hit theaters.

Still, news of Frozen 2 comes as no surprise. The original film raked in almost $1.3 billion at the box office and has spurred Disney merchandising in stores and at theme parks.

At the shareholder meeting, Disney also announced that the dates of the next Star Wars films: Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released May 26, 2017, while Rogue One, starring Felicity Jones, will hit theaters December 16, 2016.
