Robin Wright: ‘I’ve Never Been Happier’

David Giesbrecht for Netflix(NEW YORK) — Robin Wright has long ago moved on from her ex-husband, Sean Penn, with whom she has two adult children. But no matter how much time has passed, she apparently won’t talk about what ended their marriage in 1996.

“I’m not in the business of talking about what ‘isn’t,'” she tells the April issue of Vanity Fair. “My eyes are set forward and I’ve never been happier. I have too much respect for Sean and our two extraordinary children to sell our past joys and woes for public consumption and fodder.”

Still, the House of Cards actress does reveal what she’s learned from the marriage in general.

“I believe we were together not only to have our beautiful children but to learn how to love…for the next time around, the right way. And then, what I’m looking for in people now is kindness,” Wright explains.

Wright is now engaged to Ben Foster. The pair met on the set of the 2011 film Rampart. It will be the third marriage for Wright, who was also previously married to Dane Witherspoon.

“I’ve never been happier in my life than I am today,” Wright tells the magazine. “[Ben] inspires me to be the best of myself. There’s so much to learn. It’s endless….It took me a long time to grow up. Love is possible as life is possible.”

Wright can currently be seen as the scheming Claire Underwood on the third season of House of Cards, now streaming on Netflix.
