Joe Manganiello Marks ‘Twelve-and-a-Half Years’ of Sobriety

Frazer Harrison/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Actor Joe Manganiello is proud of his sobriety, more than 12 years after giving up alcohol.

“Of course sobriety is something near and dear to me,” he told US Weekly at a screening for The Resurrection of Jake the Snake, a documentary about professional wrestler Jake “the Snake” Roberts’ struggles with sobriety. “[I’m] twelve-and-a-half years sober. So obviously this is something very close to my heart.”

The Magic Mike XXL actor has been open about his sobriety in the past, even writing about it in his 2013 book, Evolution. He also told HuffPost Live that year, “There was a period of four years where I needed to quit drinking. It was one of those obstacles I needed to get over. Once again, I needed to clear the road in order for these things to happen.”

Manganiello plans to wed Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara later this year. The actor confirmed to US Weekly that they had set a wedding date, but remained mum on the details. The two became engaged last December.

Manganiello will next be seen in Magic Mike XXL, out July 1.
