(NEW YORK) — Twitter was overrun on Thursday night by debate, but not about sports, politics, or the results of Sunday’s Oscars. Instead, Twitter users struggled to decide whether a dress, posted to Tumblr and picked up by Buzzfeed was black and blue or white and gold.
Yes, really. Millions of tweets were set attempting to determine the true color of the mysterious dress. Throughout the night, Twitter’s trending topics included “#TheDress” and “#whiteandgold.”

The question got big enough to prompt celebrities to get in on the debate. Some were just as confused as we were.
From this day on, the world will be divided into two people. Blue & black, or white & gold. http://t.co/xJeR7GldwP pic.twitter.com/i6BwVzPzSZ

Others were firmly on the side of blue and black.
I don’t understand this odd dress debate and I feel like it’s a trick somehow. I’m confused and scared. PS it’s OBVIOUSLY BLUE AND BLACK
