(LOS ANGELES) — Birdman was flying high Saturday at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, honoring the best in independent film.
Birdman won the awards for best feature, best male lead for Michael Keaton, and best cinematography. The film had entered the ceremony, held on the eve of the Oscars, with a leading six nominations.
Boyhood, Nightcrawler and Whiplash each picked up two awards. Boyhood earned the best director prize for Richard Linklater for his work on the film, while Patricia Arquette was named best supporting female.
Julianne Moore earned best female lead for Still Alice. J.K. Simmons received best supporting male for Whiplash.
