Bravo's “Fashion Queens” Dish on Oscar Red Carpet Looks They're Anticipating

Alex Martinez/Michael Lavine/Bravo(NEW YORK) — When actresses and actors walk the red carpet at the 87th Academy Awards on Sunday, the world will be watching — and analyzing — every detail of their glamorous looks.  While there will be dozens and dozens of celebrities showing off their finery, the co-hosts of Bravo’s talk show Fashion Queens say there are certain stars who they can’t wait to see strut their stuff this weekend.

Miss Lawrence Washington said he’s looking forward to what Meryl Streep, who is a presenter as well as an Oscar nominee for Best Supporting Actress, will have on.

“She’s always in some type of organza or some type of silk gown, or something like that. And she always gives you epic make-up. Like she really, really does. Like, they pull and snatch her face to the god,” he tells ABC News Radio.

Meanwhile, his co-host Bevy Smith is looking forward to nominee Reese Witherspoon.

“Reese Witherspoon is going to be amazing,” she says. “She wears vintage. When she won for Walk the Line I think she wore vintage. So I hope that she brings out some vintage garments because she’s got that petite little body that works with vintage really well. And that’s one way of guaranteeing that you won’t be amongst the crowd of everyone else that’s just gonna borrow this season’s couture look for the Oscars.”

But who needs to make sure they’ve hired a stylist before the big day? Smith says Best Supporting Actress nominee Patricia Arquette needs major help.

“Hopefully, she’ll wear a dress that actually fits because at the Golden Globes, it was a little baggy,” Smith says with a laugh. “It looked very haphazard. I know she’s not a fashion girl, but maybe she’ll like rise to the occasion. Because it’s a big deal that a Patricia Arquette is nominated for an Oscar. Like, whoa!”

Fashion aside, actresses will also be studied for their hair and makeup choices. Smith predicts that actresses will have understated makeup this year.

“We saw a lot of muted face and a lot of muted glamour on the red carpet for the Golden Globes. And I think they got a lot of good feedback, so maybe we’ll see more of that,” she explains.

Fashion Queens co-host and celebrity hairstylist Derek J. says he’s ready for actresses to switch it up when it comes to hair on the carpet. “It’s been very messy, very kind of bed-headish. But then, like, at the Golden Globes, everybody had a chignon. Everything was pulled back,” he says. “So, I just want to see different in general.”

The Academy Awards will be telecast from the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood. Neil Patrick Harris will host the ceremony, which will air live from coast to coast on ABC. The network’s coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT with a red carpet special.
