ABC/Craig Sjodin(LOS ANGELES) — Kerry Washington rarely talks about her husband, former NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha, but she recently shared that her husband does indeed watch her hit show, Scandal.
Appearing on Thursday’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Washington said of her hubby, “We have this thing where, after we watch great shows that we love, like Game of Thrones and The Good Wife and Homeland, he always turns to me and says, ‘We watch the best shows.’ And so I love it [that] after Scandal, he turns and says, ‘We watch the best shows.’ That’s sweet!”
On this season of Scandal, Washington’s character, Olivia Pope, is in captivity, but despite the crazy hairstyles and ragged clothes that she’s had to wear, the Emmy Award-nominated actress said she loves portraying this side of Liv.
“It’s been a treat for me, especially that first episode coming back, and all this kidnapping stuff. It’s kind of like I’ve been able to do a movie within Scandal,” she said. “It’s a whole new cast and all new locations and clothes that Olivia Pope normally wouldn’t wear.”
Washington said viewers will finally be able to find out who kidnapped Olivia in an upcoming episode, and she claims that when she herself found out, even she couldn’t believe who did it.
She added, “I will tell you that at the table read, when we all read what happens, we were flabbergasted. I mean, I ran to [creator] Shonda [Rhimes] after the table read and was like, ‘How? How? How? How are we gonna do that? What do you mean? How is that working?'”
The next episode of Scandal airs on ABC Thursday at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
