ABC Comedy “Fresh Off the Boat” Premieres Wednesday Night

ABC/Nicole Wilder(NEW YORK) — Fresh Off the Boat, the first network sitcom to star an Asian-American family in 20 years, premieres Wednesday night on ABC.

Set in 1995, it focuses on 11-year-old Eddie Huang and his family, who’ve relocated from Chinatown in Washington, D.C. to suburban Orlando, where they discover that things are much different.

Constance Wu plays the matriarch of the family, Jessica. She was recently asked by ABC News Radio how much a network show can push boundaries compared to a series on Netflix or HBO.

Wu said, “I think every show has its places where it could flourish and its places where it has its limitations, and I’m really grateful to be part of such a big network in such a historic, groundbreaking show.”

Fresh Off the Boat, which is based on a memoir by restaurateur Eddie Huang, also stars Randall Park, who played Kim Jong-un in The Interview.

The show debuts with episodes at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time and 9:30 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday night.
